How PayPal stole Christmas

poormommytoG started this conversation

Not bad enough the company I worked for, for 10 years downsized, and I was laid off. So while looking for employment, thought I'd EBay my belongings that were in good shape.

Had both my EBay and PayPal accounts for over 3 years. Granted very little activity. Mainly buying off Ebay. 100% positive on Ebay and no complaints, no disputes on PayPal.

Things were going good for a few months. Selling mainly little $3-$5 items, but it at least helped keep us above water. I would divide my day between job applications, resumes, interviews and listing on EBay. I was putting in over 10 hours a day between all that.

Started listing bigger/more expensive items, as I learned the Ebay ways (what seemed to work and what didn't). Had a couple of good sales. Was so releived that little more money was coming in.

I also had ordered the PayPal debit card when I started Ebaying. It was quick to arrive, and just used it to pay for small purchases (mainly at local drug store, quick trip to grocery). Nothing out of the ordinary.

Well, last Friday, I withdrew, from an ATM, a couple hundred dollars. Paid a few bills.

This past Monday evening I went to withdraw about $500.00 to do some Christmas shopping (all the while more money is being put into PayPal due to weekend sales). No can do. Frozen.

Suspious activity? Yeah, that's a good answer!! Because I finally start making money for them, they want to keep it, maybe??

Well, they have helped ruined my Christmas. I literally have no money for Christmas.

During that time, I've set up accounts with a few other places, but of course, being I'm new to them, I'll never get pay outs in time for shopping this weekend. Plus, so many consumers don't want to use other "pay" systems. So my sales have dropped drastically.

They have raked me over the coals, and thanks to them (I should had withdrew what money I had in there out on Friday, but thought all was well).

Can anyone direct me to a way to get mainly Christmas money? Still have a couple of bills due. Would hate to lose electric and water before Christmas.

Thanks

I would have to agree with sheshe to a point, but instead of being the only way....have it be at least an option the majority of the time.

Reply to latoshastn:---WHOA up there dude, have you ever had a paypal account? Was it connected to a debit or credit card through an active bank account?  Not that you ever did but have you ever tried to purchase any illegal items through paypal? For instance paypal will not let any tobacco products from anywhere go through their paypal system and if anyone is cought trying to sell or buy tobacco will lose their account period. If your going to slam an institute like paypal and accuse them of scamming you had better be able to back it up with facts. Here say is not a fact. I personally think paypal is a great addition to the internet and more and more outlets are using it, not fast enough for me though, I would love it if paypal was the only way of purchasing or selling product. sheshe030

I have used Paypal for almost five years now without any issues.  It appears that the activities that the poster above did back in 2006 caused Paypal to put a hold on the account for good reasons.  It was a new account and they did the samething when I ordered my debit card from them too.  It is just to ensure that the right person has the card.

Any credit company worth their salt will raise a red flag when a large sum of cash is drawn out and then a bunch of charges are made on a new account in a short period of time.

This is the great thing about the internet...nothing ever goes away...the original post was from December of 2006 and here we are posting on it again in May of 2009.

I once got an email asking me to join a class action law suit against paypal.  It seems like paypal is one of the biggest internet scams of all time.

I was wondering about pay pal if they were honest. It sounds like you are having a hard time with them.

It does not sound like something to get involveed in.

feel you Paypal has 224 dollars of mine on hold, because they want I credit card number to validate my address.  Hell, my credit card ain't nothing but a prepaid debit card with no money on it.  I would have to deposit funds on it just to give them the credit card number.

Everyone keep your china and faith up. Small miracles can and do happen. I had one today, ever so small, but it was one. I was going through my EBay inventory I had left and actually ran across a toy never opened, that I can wrap up for my youngest son. It's not much but it's a little smething extra the tree.

Well, I now need to come to the reality that there will be no Christmas for kids. Going to sit the 10 year old down tomorrow and let him know that Santa isn't real, and not to expect much of anything. I think the saddness I'm feeling now, is just prepping me for what he may feel some of. But I have planned to just let him know we are still blessed in so many other ways. To everyone-be blessed you have each other.

Well, was able to get one gift for the 10 year old from the local fire station. What a BLESSING. Still seeing what the local police can do. It sure won't be like the Christmas' he's use to, but it sure beats having nothing. But any other help or directions would be so appreciated. Thanks
